Home Sweet Home: We bought a house

Home Sweet Home - We bough a house. Simply Everything Me

We bought a house. Not just a house, but a live your whole life in it, 20 year plan house. A house that is our dream come true, make it your own home house. It’s not a house, it’s our soon to be home.

Ever had that feeling where you just want to jump up and down, hug somebody really tight and you just can’t stop smiling. That teeth everywhere kinda smile. I am really struggling to explain to you how I feel at this very moment. But I am soooooooo super excited! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

It’s big and spacious and simply perfect.

Okay so let me explain. About 2 years ago, me and my husband (then fiancΓ¨) tried to buy a house – not once, not twice, but three times. Three times going through the whole process of looking for a house, signing a offer to purchase and filling out all the forms for a home loan application for at least four banks. Now if you were ever in this position – you will know that this can be a lot of paperwork, a lot of things have to happen so fast. For two weeks straight paperwork is all you do and then you wait. You wait to hear if the bank wants to give you a loan and if they do, how much are they willing to give to you and at what interest rate. These things do take a toll on you.

We ended up not buying a house. For six months, after we got married, we stayed at my in-laws in a little “flat” (it was just a room with a bathroom separate from the main house) after which we rented a house for 1 year, up until now.

The very first house we wanted to buy was like, WOW I want to live here. The second one was very practical since it was in essential one house divided into two houses, so you could rent the one side out. The third house was a fixer upper, 5 year plan house. At that stage all these houses looked like a great idea. Looking back now, I understand why we didn’t get either one of these.

I firmly believe that things don’t work out for a reason. We might plan our future but in the end God makes the decisions and He knows best. In my life things worked out much different that I planned a lot of times (and I am sure it is still going to happen many more times) but each and every time it was for the best and I can sincerely say that we are so blessed. Blessed beyond words.

So back to the exciting new house.

This is a I cannot believe I am going to own this, live here kinda house. Remember both me and my husband are only 23 years old and we are only 2 people with 2 dogs. We don’t need this big house and it is more than what we hoped for, but everything we wanted. Blessed beyond word.

First of all, it has quite a big yard. Our 2 four legged children will love this! They can finally run around  all they want. The house that we live in now has a very small yard, we really felt sorry for them but knew it was only temporary.

A big kitchen and living room. The kitchen is big enough for an island. Enough said. The scullery is also separate from the kitchen which I like. We plan to break a wall down between the kitchen and living room to create a more open space.

A study (or a second smaller living room/TV room). We don’t know yet, still deciding.

4 Bedrooms. Enough for a craft room (yeah) and eventually 2 children.

2 Full bathrooms and a guest toilet which is always handy (and comfortable). A bathroom can be quite a personal space and your guests just want to use the toilet and wash their hands so this is sufficient for them and let’s be honest, it’s easy to keep neat and clean. The nice thing about the one bathroom is that it is situated right in between 2 bedrooms and is perfect for when we have children one day. You could say you have two bedrooms with an on-suite bathroom, even though I know this is not really the case.

2 Garages, by the way, this was one of my dad’s conditions before Theunis could marry me. He had to promise we were at least going to have two garages. My dad uses his garages as a workshop and I “grew up” in this “workshop”, this is where me and my dad spent a lot of time together working and I learned a lot from him. So I always said I wanted my own garage when I grew up one day. I guess that wish came true. πŸ˜‰

4 Undercover parkings – for all the guest we are going to invite over.

There is quite a lot of work to do in and around the house since the people who currently live there were unable to maintain it properly due to health reasons, which I understand.

We are going to renovate once we move in. I am looking forward to this whole process even though it could mean we camp out in the living room and live with minimal things actually packed out until we are done. This is exciting times. It’s the times you remember for the rest of your life, so you might as well enjoy every little bit of it.

We are moving in at the end of the month. Only 21 days to go. Yes I am counting the days. Simply cannot wait to make our new house a home.

I do have photos, but the things in the house is not mine and it’s the personal space of other people, so I will take more photos when the house is empty and post them so that you can see how the house actually looks.

I will also do a few posts as we renovate so that you can see both the before and after and enjoy this journey with us.

Lots of Love
